The third annual Battle in Brownson was held February 2, 2017 in Brownson Arena at Colorado Mesa University. The wrestling match was between CMU, who was heading into the match with a winning record of (9-3), and Western State College of Colorado.

The RMAC wrestling rivals duked it out in front of the biggest audience the Battle in Brownson has hosted. This match is every year, and is the most watched wrestling match here at CMU. The mountaineers came to play that evening, and weren’t going down without a fight. This only made the mavericks much more motivated to come out and dominate. Wrestling at Colorado Mesa hasn’t been a sport that many students and faculty have gone to in the past to cheer on their fellow mavs, however, everyone loves to watch a good rivalry unfold.

This year, CMU gave an incentive and offered the first 500 people who came to the event receive an event t- shirt. CMU uses the Battle in Brownson as an invite to Mesa County to come out and watch wrestling. It’s more of a way to get the community involved in watching the sport, because wrestling is not a sport that most people voluntarily take the time out of their day to go and watch.

CMU hopes for another Battle in Brownson to take place next year and to have more fans come and support CMU and with the hopes for another victory for the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks.
