Powderhorn Celebrates 50th Anniversary

chris-kPowderhorn ski resort is calling to all of the valley to celebrate the anniversary of being Western Colorado’s prime ski destination. This weekend only, $50 lift tickets will be available in recognition of 50 years that Powderhorn has been serving the Grand Valley Community.

Powderhorn has catered to community by bringing in tourism, maintaining the economy, and being the ultimate escape for all snow lovers. Starting this Friday through Sunday, skiers and boarders will be able to get discounted
lift prices and experience the resort by special events along with hearing the history behind the resort.

Colorado Mesa University student, Chris Kerr is a frequent visiter at Powderhorn and boarded his 16th time this season today. He spoke about his year at the resort and commented on Powderhorn this afternoon, ”It was a perfect blue-bird sky day out there today. It was a little icy this morning but overall it’s a great weekend to celebrate the slopes.” Powderhorn is starting to spark more respect as the years go on as it’s hidden gems are beginning to be recognized. “The park features along with back country is as good as in anywhere in Colorado. The staff is also really great, the location is prime and it has a lot of variety going on, ”Chris Kerr said.

Powderhorn is really reaching more people this season with it being in it’s 50th year anniversary. Another special event taking place next weekend is “Mavs take over” which is a ski day for CMU students on February 11th. Live music will be featured along with discounted lift and lodging tickets for CMU students.

The ski resort wants to recognize how far they have come so they are wanting to share stories about the making of the resort during the weekend.In the future, these events and recognition will hopefully bring more awareness to the ski resort in future seasons. Powderhorn is inviting the community to honor the mountain by participating in the celebration of it’s existence as well as thanking the community for being reliable participants in all that Powderhorn has to offer.
